Mr. Robot To Return In October With Bobby Cannavale

Few shows have captured contemporary paranoias better than Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail's drama-thriller about a group of hackers trying to erase all debts. With its second (rapturously received) season airing last July, fans have been eagerly awaiting any news of the upcoming third outing like a man in the desert anticipates a cool glass of ice water.

Few shows have captured contemporary paranoias better than Mr. RobotSam Esmail’s drama-thriller about a group of hackers trying to erase all debts. With its second (rapturously received) season airing last July, fans have been eagerly awaiting any news of the upcoming third outing like a man in the desert anticipates a cool glass of ice water.

Well, now details have begun to trickle through about what’s going to happen, including the confirmation that filming is due to begin in New York City next month, with the new ten episodes airing from October 2017. On top of that, it’s been announced that Vinyl and Boardwalk Empire star Bobby Cannavale has been added to the cast as “Irving, a laconic no-nonsense used car salesman,” and that recurring guest star BD Wong, head honcho of Chinese hacker group Dark Army, has been promoted to a series regular.

With the award-winning cast all on board and creator Sam Esmail once again directing all ten episodes, NBCUniversal sound over the moon. Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks for the company, commented the following:

Sam Esmail is a true creative visionary who continues to deliver a series that boldly tackles timely issues and leans into the major headlines of the day, we’re eager to share the next phase of Elliot’s journey with fans this fall.

Mr. Robot was so good in its first two seasons (I enjoyed the slow burning second season just as much as the first) that I’d ordinarily be a bit nervous about it continuing its winning streak. But rarely has a show been so confident and direct – which is probably down to Esmail’s steady hand on the production tiller. Details are thin on the ground in regards to what the season arc might be, but based on past form, if you want some hints just pay attention to the headlines.
