I’ve never been so excited and saddened in equal measure by the impending arrival of new game content. Dark Souls III‘s Ringed City DLC is scheduled to arrive later this month for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, but it’s quite possibly the last addition to the series we’ll ever see, at least coming from the hands of developer From Software. Series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has stated on more than one occasion that neither he or From plan to create a Souls sequel anytime soon, with the studio preferring instead to move onto new projects.
That being the case, one can only hope that Ringed City will be a fitting send-off for the series, and if the most recent batch of images released by publisher Bandai Namco (via GameSpot) are anything to go by, that certainly looks to be a possibility. The screenshots, which you can see in the gallery above, highlight a small selection of new enemy and weapon variants, including a soldier previously shown in the add-on’s reveal trailer that bears a gaping Darksign brand on its chest.
Others include various depictions of the city’s destroyed beauty as well as one of a dragon. The mythical beasts have long held an important role in the series’ loreĀ and considering they’re supposed to have long gone extinct by the events of Dark Souls III, it’ll be interesting to see how From will explain away this one’s presence. Although, if we’re to get another skirmish with the winged beasts that’s as memorable as Kalameet from the original Dark Souls, that may not even matter.
Dark Souls III‘s Ringed City DLC is out March 28. If you missed the original reveal trailer, check it out below.
