Filming is officially underway on the set of Jurassic World 2, but Universal’s monstrous sequel has still found room in its ranks for one more addition: Geraldine Chaplin.
Known for her award-winning performances across Doctor Zhivago, Welcome to L.A. and Roseland, Chaplin is one of the many daughters of legendary silent film actor Charlie Chaplin, and has since become something of a good-luck charm for writer-director Juan Antonio Bayona in recent times. To date, the prolific actress has appeared in all three of Bayona’s feature films – namely The Orphanage, The Impossible, A Monster Calls – and now, Jurassic World 2 will take that streak to four. Little is known about Chaplin’s actual role in the 2018 sequel, but with production underway, expect more details to emerge online sooner rather than later.
Indeed, there’s a similar veil of secrecy currently clouding Jurassic World 2‘s actual storyline. Early reports claim co-writers Colin Trevorrow (Star Wars: Episode IX) and Derek Connolly have rustled up a plot involving weaponized dinosaurs and themes of animal abuse. What we do know for sure is that BD Wong will be back, back, back as the dubious Dr. Henry Wu, a best-in-class geneticist who was last seen making off on helicopter with a stash of dinosaur embryos. Could it be that Wu plan is to license InGen’s groundbreaking research to private military corporations, thus allowing for a scenario in which the process of dinosaur creation is open to all? It’s certainly possible, and would go some ways to explaining Bryce Dallas Howard’s comments about how Jurassic World 2 is poised to steer Universal’s action-adventure series into uncharted territory.

Jurassic World 2 claws its way out of containment and into theaters on July 22nd, 2018, and only then will we know if Universal’s franchise revival has the necessary mileage in the tank for a full-blown trilogy.
