Nioh Worldwide Sales Have Surpassed One Million, All Players Getting Free Armor To Celebrate

Having been out in the wild for a little over two weeks, it appears as if Team Ninja's PlayStation 4 exclusive Nioh has gone down a treat with, well, a lot of people. As reported by Gamer.ne.jp (via Gematsu) the developer, along with publisher Koei Tecmo announced that the action RPG has already surpassed the one million copies sold mark, which makes William Adams' voyage to Japan a rather successful one. The fact that Nioh is not only exclusive to a single platform but also a brand new IP only serves to make the figure all the more impressive, and Team Ninja certainly has cause to celebrate.

Having been out in the wild for a little over two weeks, it appears as if Team Ninja’s PlayStation 4 exclusive Nioh has gone down a treat with, well, a lot of people. As reported by Gamer.ne.jp (via Gematsu) the developer, along with publisher Koei Tecmo announced that the action RPG has already surpassed the one million copies sold mark, which makes William Adams’ voyage to Japan a rather successful one. The fact that Nioh is not only exclusive to a single platform but also a brand new IP only serves to make the figure all the more impressive, and Team Ninja certainly has cause to celebrate.

As a thank you to fans, the developer has confirmed that all players will receive a special set of commemorative armor to mark the occasion, which will be made available with the game’s next patch – title update version 1.04 – which, according to the developer, will go live before the end of today. You can see the armor in question below, which is a golden version of the titular Nioh set already available in-game.

Despite an apparent lull in Japan’s games industry that’s seen its focus shift from consoles to mobile, it’s pleasing to see certain studios are still willing to take risks with new intellectual property, and with Nioh‘s commercial success mimicking a similar critical response, talk of a sequel will certainly be on the cards.

As for the immediate future, Team Ninja has several pieces of DLC currently in the works for Nioh, including a free update in March that will introduce new, harder variations of existing missions. Following that, April will see the previously announced competitive PvP mode be made available, also for free.
