Xander Cage isn’t the only Triple X agent poised to make a comeback in this month’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage – Darius Stone, the former US Navy SEAL not seen since 2005’s woeful action sequel State of the Union, swings back just in time to save the day in this all-new TV spot for D.J. Caruso’s actioner.
Played once again by the inimitable Ice Cube, this is the first official confirmation that Darius Stone will feature in Return of Xander Cage, and we fully expect Samuel L. Jackson’s wise-cracking Agent Gibbons – the driving force behind the super-secret Triple X program – to be the one to unite the likeminded adrenaline junkies in the first place. Vin Diesel’s title lead will need all the help he can muster, too, now that a superweapon called Pandora’s Box – one capable of controlling all of America’s satellites while in orbit – has fallen into the hands of terrorists. Cue corruption, jingoism, and bat-shit insane action sequences.
Joining Diesel, Jackson and Cube for the action-packed romp are Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette, Diesel’s Furious 7 cohort Tony Jaa, F.C. Barcelona playmaker Neymar Jr., Nina Dobrev and Andrey Ivchenko as the film’s chief antagonist, who wants nothing more than to utilize Pandora’s Box for personal gain.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage will make a beeline for theaters next Friday, January 20. If Paramount has its way, and providing the box office figures shake out as planned, D.J. Caruso’s actioner may well spawn a sequel of its own.
