Morten Tyldum has seen better days. The Oscar-nominated director behind The Imitation Game and Headhunters found himself receiving some of the worst reviews of his career with Passengers, and the box office take for the expensive blockbuster hasn’t looked much better. Some thought it might put the Norweigan filmmaker in director’s jail, in fact, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, as he’s now set to helm the pilot for Amazon’s newest dramatic series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.

Reinventing the popular literary figure once played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and, most recently, Chris Pine, John Krasinski embodies the titular hero in his first television portrayal. In this iteration, Ryan’s an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into his first dangerous field assignment. Abbie Cornish co-stars as his love interest, Cathy Mueller.

As of now, Tyldum is only set to direct the pilot, with series producer Dan Sackheim (The Americans) on board to direct multiple episodes throughout the first season. It’s not his only upcoming TV gig, either, as the Headhunters director is also set to helm the first two episodes of Starz’s sci-fi thriller drama Counterpart, which will go straight to series.

Co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland will take the charge of Jack Ryan for Amazon and serve as executive producers alongside Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross, along with the movie franchise producer Mace Neufeld and Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Productions, will also executive produce.

Tell us, are you looking forward to seeing more of Jack Ryan? And should Tyldum get a second chance after Passengers, or did he burn all of his goodwill with his last film? Let us know down below!
