Though early reviews have tempered our expectations quite considerably, December 21 heralds the arrival of Assassin’s Creed and in it, Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson portray Callum and Joseph Lynch, respectively. If nothing else, Justin Kurzel’s live-action video game movie will lend viewers an opportunity to gauge Fassbender and Gleeson’s on-screen chemistry, as the pair will be wrangling a very different father-son dynamic in the Adam Smith-directed Trespass Against Us.
Pegged for a theatrical release in mid-January, Trespass Against Us is pitched as a crime saga that chronicles three generations of the Cutler family, who live out their lives as self-confessed outlaws far out in the British countryside.
Brendan Gleeson takes point as Colby, the unruly, abusive patriarch who isn’t afraid to push Fassbender’s Chad to the brink time and time again, eventually moulding our protagonist into a cutthroat thief. But the arrival of Chad’s son, Tyson, puts things into perspective, leaving Fassbender’s conflicted father figure at a loss between the family legacy he once knew and the safety of his heir. Our glowing review pinpointed this conflict of interests, along with the respective performances of Gleeson and Fassbender, as the big highlights of Trespass Against Us.
It can be viewed right now through DirecTV, before Smith’s crime drama makes its way into cinemas on January 20, 2017.
Trespass Against Us is set across three generations of the Cutler family who live as outlaws in their own anarchic corner of Britain’s richest countryside. Chad Cutler (Michael Fassbender) is heir apparent to his bruising criminal father, Colby (Brendan Gleeson) and has been groomed to spend his life hunting, thieving and tormenting the police.
