Stock up on those Poke Balls, Pokemon Go players – there’s a host of new creatures headed your way in the near future. As per a post on its blog, developer Niantic says the first details concerning the addition of all-new Pokemon to the mobile game will be shared through social media channels on December 12, reinforcing the recent discoveries made by data miners.
Whether or not the announcement concerns the arrival of the Gen 2 Pokedex is unclear, but we find it hard to imagine it could be anything else – the entirety of Gen 1 can already be found in the live game, barring Mythical Pokemon like Mew and Mewtwo. Of course, this could be the start of a collaboration event between Pokemon Go and the recently released 3DS games Sun and Moon, but the former seems more likely, considering recent events.
That’s not the only news being shared today, though. Niantic also announced it’s partnering with US telecommunications company Sprint to create a “special Pokemon GO experience at over 10,500 Sprint locations around the United States.” As part of the collaboration, various “Sprint, Boost Mobile and Sprint at Radioshack stores” around the country will be converted into PokeStops and Gyms, giving Trainers more avenues to obtain surplus Poke Balls and Razz Berries.
Last but not least, yesterday saw a new update introduced to Pokemon Go. Check out the patch notes below.
Pokemon Go December 6 Update (0.49.1 for Android and 1.19.1 for iOS)
- Trainers will be able to transfer multiple Pokémon at a time to Professor Willow. To use this function, press and hold on a Pokémon.
- Pokémon type icons have been added to the Gym battle approach and Gym battle screen.
- The total Candy count for your Buddy Pokémon has been added to the buddy information screen.
- The total kilometers a buddy has walked has been added to the information screen of each Pokémon that has ever been your buddy.
- Minor text fixes.
It looks as if Niantic has its hands full as 2016 comes to a close then, not least because tomorrow will see the beginning of a promotional event between itself and Starbucks. Coffee and Pokemon: what more could you ask for?
