Spider-Man: Homecoming is well into the post production stages, but not so much as a single official image has been released from the movie. That may very well change next month when the first trailer debuts alongside Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but for now, we have a very cool behind the scenes video courtesy of director Jon Watts.
It’s fairly brief, and as you can see below, it focuses on Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland performing some facial capture for the film. While we’ve already seen the British actor on set fully suited up as the hero, the mask will actually be enhanced with special effects. That’s because Marvel Studios made the unique decision to have this version of the hero’s eyes move to reflect his emotions just like in the comic books. His mouth also needs to move when Holland is talking, so facial capture like this makes a lot of sense.
[zergpaid]Fans may have criticized the hero’s CG costume in Captain America: Civil War, but if it didn’t look perfect it’s only because the wall-crawler was added at a relatively late stage in production. With this film, they’ve had more than enough time to nail it and we’re pretty confident that there won’t be any issues with Spidey’s suit here.
Also starring Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., and countless others, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7th, 2017.
