Titanfall 2‘s multiplayer component will be free to play across all platforms this weekend, publisher EA has announced. Starting December 2, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC owners will have access to a free multiplayer trial of the shooter until December 4, with all unlocks and progress transferable to the full game should you decide to pick it up. There’ll be no restrictions in place for the duration of the trial either, so all Titans, weapons and maps will be available to try.
Speaking of maps, Titanfall 2‘s first slice of free DLC – Angel City’s Most Wanted (trailer above) – will be included in the trial following its release tomorrow for those that pre-ordered the game. Besides the remake of the titular Angel City map from the original, the add-on includes the Wingman Elite Pistol, several new Titan kits and a new execution animation for Pilots. What’s more, the ability to purchase camos and other customization options for Pilots and Titans will be made available with the update.
Titanfall 2 launched last month and, despite receiving positive reviews across the board, failed to make as big an impact in the charts as EA and Respawn Entertainment may have perhaps hoped. While no definitive explanation for its disappointing sales performance has surfaced, many suspect it’s due to the game’s release date having been sandwiched between other big-name FPS titles like Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Whether we’ll ever see a sequel to Titanfall 2 is ultimately up to EA, but Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella stated previously in an interview with Glixel that he’d “definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe.”
