Upcoming survival horror Resident Evil 7 will support the use of a cross-saving feature between Xbox One and PC, according to Japanese website Dengeki. Since translated, the website states that (via GameSpot) “the Windows Store version [of Resident Evil 7] can share play data with the Xbox One version,” the comments having later been confirmed as accurate by Capcom in a statement provided to IGN.
Why exactly Capcom would choose to support such a feature for one console and (presumably) not the other remains to be seen, but judging by the similarities, this could well be a sign that Microsoft intends for Resident Evil 7 to be part of its Xbox Play Anywhere program.
The service, which applies to all first-party Xbox One titles, provides those that purchase any applicable games with a free digital copy of the same game on PC, a huge bonus for those that regularly play on both platforms. While Microsoft has never announced any plans to include third-party titles in the scheme, its never explicitly said otherwise either, so we’ll just have to see if this is just a one-off or something else entirely.
A special $180 collector’s edition that features a replica of Resident Evil 7‘s Baker Mansion was revealed earlier this week, and is due to launch alongside the gameĀ on January 24, 2017 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the latter of which will get several features exclusive to the platform for its first year. Besides being fully playable with Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, so too, will the Kitchen VR demo.
