On the eve of entering production, Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time has rounded out its ensemble cast with the addition of Zach Galifianakis, Andre Holland, Levi Miller (Pan), Bellamy Young (Scandal), Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World) and newcomer Deric McCabe.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, confirming that Galifianakis is in line to play a character known as Happy Medium. Originally a female character in Madeleine L’Engle’s cherished fantasy novel, the Happy Medium is housed up in a cavern somewhere in Orion’s Belt, and imparts some much-needed wisdom to our young heroes via her all-powerful, all-seeing crystal ball.
Andre Holland, meanwhile, has been set as the school principal, with Miller on board as Calvin O’Keefe, a close friend to Meg Murry (Storm Reid) who joins her on a spacefaring journey to locate her missing father. It’s an interstellar quest that will take them to a mysterious planet known as Camazotz, ruled by a giant evil brain called The Black Thing.
Also starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, we understand Disney is fostering A Wrinkle in Time as a potential franchise-starter, one that will likely grace theaters some time in 2018.
The wheels are officially in motion on the LA set of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. Coming off the one-two punch of Keeping Up With the Joneses and the long-delayed Masterminds, Galifianakis is poised to make the trip into Warner Bros.’ gleeful LEGO universe for The LEGO Batman Movie, where he’s attached to play the Joker himself. It’ll swoop into theaters on February 10, 2017.
