It is surely one of the most highly anticipated movies on Disney’s slate, and now A Wrinkle In Time has the highly accomplished Gugu Mbatha-Raw among its cast members. Director Ava DuVernay confirmed the news herself on Twitter.
“Don’t hope it was a dream.” Thrilled to confirm that Gugu Mbatha-Raw has joined #TeamWrinkle as Dr. Murry, Meg’s mom + brilliant scientist. pic.twitter.com/13VNc6vsCe

Gugu Mbatha-Raw will play Dr. Kate Murray, who is a prominent microbiologist and mother to the lead – Meg Murray (who is played by Storm Reid). The film is based on the 1962 science fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time, written by Madeleine L’Engle, and centres on Meg – who is the teenage daughter of two scientists, and sister to twin brothers as well as five year old Charles, who can read minds. Meg’s father mysteriously disappeared while working on a scientific concept known as a tesseract, and the arrival of three strange women – Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who – leads Meg and her companions on a fantastical journey through space and time.
We have previously seen that Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling have also been confirmed as cast, and it certainly heightens excitement to consider that these three phenomenal performers might fill the roles of the three strange women that guide young Meg on her way. With Ava DuVernay in the director’s chair, working from a script by Jennifer Lee (Frozen), we can certainly look forward to a female-led tale of magical proportions.
There is, as yet, no release date set for A Wrinkle In Time – but it seems fairly clear that a theatrical arrival slot will be announced sooner rather than later, as the project continues to gear up for production. In the meantime, we’ll be watching closely for any further movement on this upcoming Disney hit.
