The first slice of DLC for FromSoftware’s Dark Souls III will be with us in just a matter of weeks, and in order to get players pumped for what’s to come, publisher Bandai Namco has released a new trailer.
Unlike the previous teaser for Ashes of Ariandel, which lifted the lid on some of the new enemies, bosses and locations you’ll be cautiously exploring, today’s offering is all about the new player-versus-player content coming with the add-on.
Playing along to Andrea Wasse, Morgan Dorr and Tomothy Blakey Healy’s “Ain’t No Devil”, the footage is a call to arms for members of Dark Souls III‘s various Covenants for a battle that could well be their toughest yet. The video description reads:
Mound-Makers, Farron Watchdogs, Blade of the Darkmoon, Sunbros… Have you chosen your allegiance in Dark Souls III? Will you help souls in distress, or betray your closest allies? Ashes of Ariandel will improve on the acclaimed multiplayer mode of Dark Souls III, with a new PvP arena. Infuse your weapons, refill your Estus and prepare to roll. It’s time to fight, Ashen Ones.
While most of the trailer retreads familiar territory, we’re given a short glimpse of the new Arena feature being introduced with Ashes of Ariandel, including confirmation that players will be able to participate in 3v3 duels. What’s more, some sort of crown emblem can be seen adorning each combatants head, perhaps pointing to a scoring system of some sort.
We won’t know for sure until the new content drops on October 25, but color us excited, either way. Ashes of Ariandel is the first of two DLC expansions planned for Dark Souls III, with the second – still unnamed – due to release in early 2017.
