Maroon 5 is back with a new song, and it’s totally out of left field in the best way possible. Frontman and swoonster Adam Levine does his best to take the band to new heights and exceeds mightily, and it helps that he’s getting assistance from one of the biggest rappers in the game right now: Kendrick Lamar.
News spread about the band’s single, “Don’t Wanna Know,” a few weeks back, but little hype from it came from Maroon 5 themselves. Turns out they were promoting it the traditional way, as the pop group performed the track live a couple times during their current run of shows. Now that we have the studio version, which hit all digital outlets today, we finally get to witness Maroon 5’s foray into the world of tropical house.
It’s much different than the live version of the song, but the production is really what makes it shine. As far as Lamar’s verse goes, he does the best that he can with the short amount of time given to him. There’s something wrong though about the fact that Wiz Khalifa can get a 40-something second spot on “Payphone,” yet King Kendrick gets a measly 18-seconds here.
“Don’t Wanna Know” brings Maroon 5 back into the limelight with a bang, despite the fact that the song might just be their tamest to date. Surprisingly, there was no additional information dropped today about what the intentions are with the track, so if you’re waiting for an album announcement, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. In the meantime, Maroon 5 will be performing the track on television for the first time on Ellen on November 3rd.
