All eyes on the interwebs may be mesmerized by the alluring draw of HBO’s Westworld series, but the network is cooking up another freshman show that hails from the opposite end of the dramatic spectrum.
Forget artificial consciousness and billionaires playing God, Divorce is a new, half-hour comedy series that centers on Frances, an everyday wife and mother who longs to bring an end to her stifling marriage, but quickly begins to realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Played here by Sarah Jessica Parker – also on board as executive producer – it’s really Thomas Haden Church’s unsuspecting hubby Robert that is the source for much of the comedy in this early promo. Also starring Molly Shannon (The Year of the Dog), Talia Balsam (Mad Men), and Tracy Letts (Homeland) Divorce is, according to Parker, about mining the comedic aspects of an otherwise ridiculous situation.
Here’s what the actress shared while speaking to Glamour: “Of course lawyers feed off divorce, friends enjoy it, take sides, and make bad choices. All parties behave badly. Divorce is sad and honest but also ridiculous. We looked for the humor in it.”
Sarah Jessica Parker will file for a Divorce when HBO’s freshman series premieres on October 9.
The half-hour comedy series DIVORCE (ten episodes) stars Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as an executive producer, as Frances, a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.
