The CW really isn’t fooling around today when it comes to news pertaining to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Despite having an all-star team of superheroes leading the charge each week, that doesn’t mean the producers are afraid to squeeze in a few more guests culled from around the DC Universe.

ComicBook.com reports that legendary genre actor Lance Henriksen has been cast to play Obsidian, a member of the Justice Society of America. They’re quick to point out that an older actor was cast because this iteration of Obsidian’s heyday was during World War II and the crew of the Waverider will be meeting a present day or future version of him. Whether or not he’s the son of Green Lantern Alan Scott remains to be seen.

In related news, the first image of the new-old Vixen has been revealed via social media (seen below). I use that wording because Maisie Richardson-Sellers will be playing Amaya Jiwe, grandmother of Mari McCabe. The fact that you can take advantage of having an ancestor of an unavailable actress’ character appear is definitely a perk that comes with doing a time travelling show.

Finally, a detailed synopsis for the upcoming season has been released, which you can read here:

After the defeat of the immortal villain Vandal Savage and the corrupt Time Masters who colluded with him, a new threat emerges. Dr. Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), an unconventional and charming historian, is thrust into the action upon making a shocking discovery – the Legends are scattered throughout time. Nate must find a way to rescue season one’s beloved team of heroes and rogues. Once reunited, the Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations – unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The ATOM, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Professor Martin Stein & Jefferson “Jax” Jackson/Firestorm, and Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave. The series will also feature Matthew MacCaull in the role of Commander Steel, Sarah Grey as Stargirl, and the not-yet-cast characters of Obsidian and Dr. Mid-Nite as the Justice Society of America. In addition, the “big bad” for the series will be the show’s own version of the Legion of Doom, featuring Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) as its members.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, Chris Fedak and Sarah Schechter, and season two will premiere on October 13 on The CW.
