Given the calibre of talent surrounding it, it’s easy to see why Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival is without doubt one of the fall’s most-anticipated films. Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Michael Stuhlbarg and Forest Whitaker, the movie will touch down at both TIFF and Venice later this year, and today, we have our first look at its stars.
Seen in the gallery above are Adams and Renner, and though no context is given regarding what exactly’s going on in each photo, we do know that Arrival centres on an “elite team who investigates mysterious spacecraft touching down around the globe.”
“This isn’t a graphic-novel universe or creating a new universe. This happens in our world today, as it exists,” Adams told USA Today, who premiered the images. Speaking about her character, the actress went onto say, “she felt real, like somebody I would know and somebody I would like to have a conversation with. Emotionally, the journey she takes in this was devastating to me.”
Renner, meanwhile, touched on the tone, comparing Arrival to what you’d get if you blended Stanley Kubrick with Steven Spielberg, before adding the following:
“If you’re a parent, it’s going to wreck you. It’s big and there are thriller elements and tension, but it’s going to lean much more into a thinking person’s film.”
Arrival lands in theatres on November 11th, just in time for awards season.
