There’s been a recent trend in the movie industry to drop short teasers before the first full theatrical trailer for a given film arrives, or as some of us call them, “The trailer for the trailer.” Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the latest to join the party, as we’ve been given a brief glimpse at the concluding chapter in the widely successful action-horror franchise.
As we await the full trailer, which will arrive this Tuesday, August 9, the footage provided so far shows Alice (Milla Jovovich) riding a motorcycle as her narration declares, “I’m gonna kill every last one of them.” Whether she’s referring to zombies or Albert Wesker and his Umbrella goons may remain a mystery for awhile.
If the full trailer is anything like this teaser, you can probably expect more of an emphasis on action, as opposed to scares. As a fan of the Resident Evil video game series since 1998, I would much prefer an emphasis on the latter, but the studio knows what it wants.
In the meantime, this synopsis should give you a general idea of what to expect from the film:
Picking up immediately after the events in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter arrives in theaters on January 27, 2017.
