Originally revealed during June’s E3 presentation, Bethesda Softworks has officially debuted the first in-game footage from the upcoming Prey. The clip was released to mark the beginning of this year’s QuakeCon celebration, which is taking place this weekend in Dallas, Texas.
Developed by Arkane Studios (Dishonored), Prey has players step into the shoes of Morgan Yu, the first human enhanced with alien powers. Trapped on the crumbling Talos-1 ship, Yu must not only survive an alien assault, but also prevent the creatures from escaping the space craft. In order to so, he’ll need to rely on both his human instincts and alien gifts.
While it gives us a better look at the title than the original E3 reveal, the gameplay trailer is only a small glimpse into the world of Prey. We get some brief narration from Yu, before getting thrown into action against mysterious alien creatures. There appears to be some sort of giant smoke creature, as well as the always pleasant Half-Life inspired headcrabs. Obviously, this is not every enemy we’ll see in the main game, but it’s a start.
Both Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios have been on major hot streaks recently, so I trust in their vision for Prey. With that said, this brief clip isn’t particularly exciting. As of now, it looks like a pretty standard FPS, but with slightly more interesting enemy designs. Of course, I don’t expect every cool moment from the game to be on display yet. It’s just that for its first big demonstration, I was expecting at least one “WOW” moment.
Prey is scheduled to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2017.
