With San Diego Comic-Con kicking off in just a matter of days, we should all brace ourselves for an onslaught of news that only this time of year can bring. According to Bleeding Cool, they’ve heard some rumblings concerning not only ill-fated fan favorite Constantine, but also characters such as Batwoman and Oracle, which should excite many a fan.
Let’s start off with what I find to be the most intriguing: Batwoman/Kate Kane may have a recurring role this season when Supergirl makes its way to The CW. With Maggie Sawyer joining the show, it makes sense that her ex-girlfriend pop in to National City from time to time. I fully admit that even I would have previously thought the inclusion of a Batman Family character of this magnitude to be impossible, but with Superman putting in a few appearances at the start of Season 2, the door has seemingly been opened for more heroes. Batwoman made her first appearance in animation earlier this year in Batman: Bad Blood, so to see her also make her live action debut would be beyond awesome.
[zergpaid]Bleeding Cool also claims that Barbara Gordon will appear on Supergirl as well, but in her Oracle persona, not as Batgirl; I guess we can’t have two bats in the belfry, so to speak. With TNT’s Titans series never having gotten off the ground, it would indeed be wise for The CW to scoop up the beloved computer hacker. Apparently we should expect Babs to have a similar working relationship with Batwoman as she had with Black Canary in the comics. With Black Canary having been unwisely killed off in Season 4 of Arrow, Ms. Gordon could use a crime fighting buddy.
As for Matt Ryan’s John Constantine, who made an appearance on Arrow last fall, it’s being said that he could join the ranks of John Barrowman’s Malcolm Merlyn and Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold as being promoted to a series regular across all of The CW’s DC shows. Not only that, John Wesley Shipp might land a similar deal and continue to play Jay Garrick, The Flash of Earth 2. If all works out, Constantine could land a new show on Friday nights in the not too distant future as superheroes aim to take over every night of the week.
No matter how you look at it, this is truly a golden age for geeks to live in.
