The EP’s title track is characterized by an exchange between melodic and dissonant elements, while the aptly titled “Shadow” features a more brooding, introspective groove. “Sunset,” which is her collaboration with the Polish artist Salski showcases some of his shimmering synth work, although all three tracks on Desert exemplify Niko’s expert ear for sound synthesis – particularly her layered, nuanced bass lines.

Yulia Niko’s Desert EP marks the launch her own imprint, Deep Season Records, which has already garnered support from the likes of Behrouz and Lee Burridge. Regarding the endeavor, she told us:

This EP itself is really inspired by the first time I went to an All Day I Dream party. I fell in love with the vibe and was motivated to produce something with deep melodies. I have been wanting to create a deep house label for the longest time, and for the longest time I already had the name and the art design in mind.

Once these tracks were finished I knew they would be the perfect ones to debut on my new label. In the past I have released off of many different labels yet it was always a dream for me to have my own! Desert, much like Deep Season, is inspired by minimalist nature and the sounds that go with it.

Yulia Niko‘s Desert EP is also now available on Spotify. After listening to each song, make sure to keep an eye out for more originals, collaborations and remixes from the Brooklyn deep house DJ/producer as she’ll undoubtedly be looking to close the summer out on an even higher note.
