Following the news that Bungie won’t be releasing Destiny‘s Rise of Iron expansion for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 when it launches later this year, the studio has dispatched a follow-up post on their website that details the content that will and won’t still be available when the so-called ‘legacy consoles’ are separated from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.
In what’s sure to be the most contentious change, Bungie will be making changes to how Xûr works on legacy platforms. While the Agent of the Nine isn’t being removed entirely, his available wares will be tweaked slightly.
See below for the planned changes:
Xûr, Agent of the Nine
Xûr will continue to appear in the Tower or the Reef on Legacy Consoles. The following changes will be made to Xûr’s inventory on Legacy Consoles:
- Individual Exotic Weapons and Armor pieces will no longer be sold by Xûr.
- Encrypted Exotic Engrams will be sold. These will decrypt into Year 2 Exotics.
- Encrypted Legacy Engrams will continue to be sold. These will decrypt into Year 1 Exotics.
- Heavy Ammo Synthesis, Three of Coins, Vehicle Upgrades, Motes of Light, and Glass Needles will continue to be sold.
Another big casualty will be the permanent removal of the game’s popular competitive multiplayer events Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner. To access both from August 2016 onward, players will be required to upgrade to a current-gen version of Destiny. In addition, live events like the previous Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days and the Sparrow Racing League will no longer be accessible on legacy consoles.
Trials of Osiris
The Trials of Osiris weekly Crucible event will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles beginning in August 2016. To access Trials of Osiris after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.Iron Banner
The Iron Banner Crucible event will no longer be available on Legacy Consoles beginning in August 2016. To access Iron Banner after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.Live Events
Legacy Consoles will not have access to any Live Events beginning in August 2016. Live Events are limited-time Destiny event that can include specific playlists, Quests, Bounties, or Rewards. Examples of previous Live Events are the Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days, or the Sparrow Racing League. To access Live Events after August 2016, Legacy Console players will need to upgrade from their Legacy Console and purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron once it is released.
There’s a whole lot more information available on Bungie’s site, but the content mentioned above is what’s receiving the most major changes as the shooter enters its third year.
Destiny: Rise of Iron launches for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 20, and will probably be the last major add-on released before the arrival of Destiny 2 next year.
