Following extensive demos across both E3 2014 and 2015, British developer No Man’s Sky opted out of the chance to make it three trade shows on the trot by ensuring its long-awaited space simulator remained cloaked in mystery.
All of this during one of, if not the busiest weeks on the industry’s calendar. Addressing the no-show via Twitter, studio co-founder Sean Murray revealed that the developer made the conscious decision to forgo E3 in favor of adding what is surely the final sheen of polish to its new IP.

things we could have done last week:
1) gone to e3 to build more hype
2) made our game betterwe did number 2 🙂

In a separate blog post, Murray offered up a more comprehensive status report on No Man’s Sky, revealing that development is “genuinely going well.”
“Every day, the game is getting better and better, and despite all the late nights (and early mornings) we’re all working to get it finished and in your hands. It’s amazing to see it all coming together. No Man’s Sky is the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. It’s even bigger than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.”
Two delays and a staggering (insurmountable?) amount of hype later, No Man’s Sky will touch down on PS4 and PC come August 10 in North America.
