Developer Firaxis has today announced plans to partner with The Workshop, a collaboration that will herald the arrival of XCOM 2 across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6 in North America.
Following in the footsteps of its acclaimed predecessor, XCOM 2 will now make the jump from PC exclusive to multi-platform title and to commemorate the news, Creative Director Jake Solomon addressed console players via a post on PlayStation Blog.
“The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too. As avid console players ourselves, we’re excited to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to all of our fans.”
Prior to XCOM 2‘s arrival back in February, a console port wasn’t considered a priority for Firaxis due to the game’s ambitious nature, but the relative success of the sequel coupled with the demand from PS4 and Xbox One players have essentially sealed the deal. No word yet on whether the modding support will carry over to consoles, but expect further details to be shared over the coming months.
