Mark your diaries, Star Wars fans. Soon after Gareth Edwards lights up theaters in December with the release of Rogue One, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will fire up production on their hotly-anticipated Han Solo Anthology movie.
That’s according to series stalwart Lawrence Kasdan, revealing to Star Wars News that both directors now plan to begin shooting in London come January, when they’ll be welcoming newcomer Alden Ehrenreich in the role of the roguish and endearing smuggler.
Dancing around specific details, Kasdan confirmed that he penned the script for the Han Solo origins story in tandem with his son, Jon Kasdan. The esteemed screenwriter (The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) also championed Phil Miller and Chris Lord as “great, funny and imaginative filmmakers,” before confirming that all-important start date.
Per Star Wars News:
Oh, I think so! You know, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it. They’re great, funny and imaginative and we’ve had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they’re about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slated to hit theaters on December 16 of this year. Phil Lord and Chris Miller will then welcome Alden Ehrenreich in the role of Han Solo once their spinoff enters production in January of 2017, before Rian Johnson’s mainline sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII punches it all the way into theaters on December 15, 2017.
