We’re little over a week away from the grand awakening of En Sabah Nur and with 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse marketing campaign beginning to draw to a close, what is surely one of the film’s final featurettes has surfaced online today, this time featuring Oscar Isaac outlining the motivations driving his titular, ancient deity.
Gunning to bring about the ruination of planet Earth so that he can build a new one from the ashes, Isaac’s all-powerful megavillain is poised to rain down biblical destruction in only a few days’ time. In his bid to cleanse the world, Apocalypse also drafts in the Four Horsemen – Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Alexandra Shipp’s temperamental Storm – boosting their mutant abilities in the process.
Rounding out the ensemble for what looks to be Bryan Singer’s swan song in the X-Men universe are James McAvoy, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult along with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine – a role that won’t just be a throwaway cameo, according to Singer.
X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theaters on May 27. It doesn’t exactly stand on the shoulders of Days of Future Past, but it’s an entertaining romp nonetheless.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
