Soon after Mulder and Scully were guided back onto the small-screen earlier this year, reaping largely positive reviews in the process, talk soon turned to the future of The X-Files beyond the six-episode miniseries.

Indeed, Fox has expressed an interest in continuing to investigate the paranormal with an additional run of episodes – season 11, to be specific – in the past, but now chairmans Dana Walden and Gary Newman have offered the most exciting update to date, revealing that “everyone is on board” for another season. That includes David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully, along with series creator Chris Carter.

Word comes by way of Deadline, relaying a Fox press call where Walden and Newman noted the network has “had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson,” before going on to reveal that they “believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”

Packed schedules are the one potential pitfall facing Chris Carter and Co., which was part of the reason that the recent X-Files miniseries only stretched for six episodes in total. But should Fox pinpoint a demand for a full, 22-episode season – and the positive ratings ought to play a major factor – Duchovny previously claimed that he would be game for an extended season, but just don’t expect an announcement anytime soon.

That’s because, in closing, Walden asked fans to stay tuned for further updates:

“Hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.”

It seems everyone is back on board for more episodes of The X-Files – but are you? Let us know by sounding off below.
