2016 might seem like a strange time for a trap duo like Chicago-based Flosstradamus to launch a record label, but here we are and there they go. However, instead of using it primarily as a platform for their own music, they’ve gone the respectable route and announced that they will kick off Hi Def Youth with Party Thieves’ Undrafted EP.
Hi Def Youth is a subtle nod to Flosstradamus’ “HDY Nation” (pronounced hoodie nation) branding concept, being that the initialism of the label name is “HDY.”
“We’ve been gearing up to launch our label Hi Def Youth and are extremely excited to kick it off with one of our favorite new producers, Party Thieves,” reads an official statement from the duo.
The first track from the EP is “BADD,” which creates a jungle terror-esque ambience despite being a trap song by structure. Party Thieves purports that his new label heads had been one of the first acts to inspire him to learn how to produce electronic music in a professional capacity, and the influences are certainly prevalent.
As for the rest of the Undrafted EP, it will come out as the inaugural release on Flosstradamus‘ Hi Def Youth label on May 13th.
Until then, listen to “BADD” by Party Thieves in the SoundCloud player above and if you like what you hear, then be sure to look out for the rest of the EP next weekend.
