In case you’ve been living under a rock; it’s May 4, and the Star Wars news has been coming in thick and fast. Not only has EA and Titanfall dev Respawn unveiled plans for an all-new licensed game, but Mads Mikkelsen continues to have us on tenterhooks in anticipation of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
In a bid to keep that steady stream of excitement flowing, director Chris Miller took to Twitter to showcase what is ostensibly the first image for Disney and Lucasfilm’s Han Solo Anthology Movie.
[zerg]While both studios narrow down the seemingly monumental search for an actor to assume the coveted role – last we reported, Hail Caesar’s Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Raynor and Kingsman’s Taron Egerton emerged as the likely candidates – Miller and co-director Phil Lord are deep in pre-production on their origins movie. Now it’s just a question of who will shoot first.

Offering a close-up of Han’s signature DL-44 blaster, the circuit board and general aesthetic of the still image evokes a nostalgia for the Star Wars films of old. Indeed, if reports are to be believed, Han Solo, still wet behind his ears before A New Hope, will make a small appearance in this year’s Rogue One. That’s simply conjecture at this stage, of course, but the fact that Miller and Lord appear on the verge of filming suggests that Disney and Lucasfilm have zeroed in on an actor to take point as the roguish smuggler – even if we don’t know it yet.
Miller and Lord’s Han Solo Anthology Film is pegged for release on May 25, 2018.
