Some time ago, presenter turned actress Olivia Munn alluded to a situation which ultimately gave her the option of choosing the role of mutant warrior Psylocke in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse over a different character in Fox’s superhero hit, Deadpool.
That character was never named, nor did Munn elaborate on the reasons she chose one over the other – but in a new interview with American Way Magazine, she provides a few more details.
Apparently, Munn didn’t “want to play the girlfriend again” (which straight away confirms that she would have portrayed Vanessa Carlyle in Deadpool), and instead wanted some kick-ass fight scenes, which she would most definitely get as Psylocke – though she was cautioned that she wouldn’t have as much dialogue in the role.
“I said, ‘Is there a fight scene?’ The fight scene could be her monologue. I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ‘Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ‘Yes, that’s an important part.’ ”
From what we’ve seen of the various trailers and TV spots, Munn certainly got her wish and we can’t wait to see her in action when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
