Fox has wasted no time in laying the groundwork for its TV slate going into the 2016-2017 season, now that The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the network has ordered both 24: Legacy and the Lee Daniels music drama Star to series.

As two of its big-name pilots, today’s news is a fairly significant vote of confidence from Fox, with Legacy earning a 12-episode order and Star securing the standard 13 episode season.

In terms of the former, it is Straight Outta Compton breakout Corey Hawkins that will headline the network’s reworked CTU thriller. According to Fox, plans are in place for the series to maintain the same structure as its predecessor – perhaps with the signature 24-hour clock – as it explores the arc of Hawkins’ military hero, who lands on American soil only to discover that the troubles of war continue to haunt him. It’s much more pressing that PTSD, though, with Legacy forcing our newfound hero to prevent “what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.”

Also starring Miranda Otto, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky and Jimmy Smits, Fox’s overhauled rendition of 24 will be executive produced by Kiefer Sutherland – who left a legacy of his own as Jack Bauer.

Switching gears to Star, and the musical drama is the latest to hail from Daniels – co-creator on the widely popular Empire series. Indeed, if Empire was told from the perspective of the industry’s producing talent, Daniel’s latest project tells the trials and tribulations faced by the artist. Benjamin Bratt and Queen Latifah topline the drama.

With series orders now locked down, expect Fox to premiere both 24: Legacy and Star before the year’s end.
