It’s been a busy day in the Marvel camp (when is it not?), after The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will be reuniting with his Civil War co-star Tom Holland in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
There, Downey’s Tony Stark will be joining the ranks of Jon Watts’ anticipated solo movie alongside Holland, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and singer-songwriter Zendaya. However, one actor he won’t be working with is Oscar-winner Michael Keaton. Contrary to previous reports, which pegged the Birman star to play the villainous Vulture, it seems negotiations never progressed far enough for a deal to stick.
[zerg]That’s according to THR’s Borys Kit, who conceded via Twitter that Keaton has now officially passed up on Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The dangers of trying to report deal too early: Michael Keaton NOT doing Spider-Man. Talks never got past the offer stage.

Now that we know talks between Keaton and Marvel didn’t finalize, expect the studio to extend the search for Homecoming‘s chief antagonist. Elsewhere on the casting docket, Watts’ standalone reboot recently welcomed Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as two of Peter Parker’s classmates.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is due to arrive on July 7, 2017. Before that, Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland will be rubbing shoulders – Underoos! – in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War.
