Renewal season plows ahead this week, with Fox picking up two freshman series, Lucifer and Rosewood, for a second season this fall. The network cited “something special” regarding the demonically themed Lucifer‘s renewal, along with praising the show’s visuals and storytelling. Rosewood got the expected praise, as well.
Fox Entertainment president David Madden gave a comment on each. Here’s Lucifer‘s:
“We knew we had something special with Lucifer, from the engaging performances of Tom [Ellis], Lauren [German], and the rest of the charismatic cast, to Len Wiseman’s visually stunning look of the show and the amazing storytelling savvy of the Bruckheimer team.”
And here’s Rosewood‘s:
“With Rosewood, creator Todd Harthan has put a fresh, playful spin on the procedural format, infusing it with wit and warmth, while Morris, Jaina and the show’s gifted supporting cast have turned in fantastic performances. We look forward to two stand-out sophomore seasons from both series.”
Although neither series met much critical acclaim, both have netted solid viewership. The Devil-vacations-in-Los-Angeles tale of Lucifer, based largely in-name-only on the same character from The Sandman comics, averages about 10.5 million total viewers on every platform. Rosewood comes just under that at around 7.8 million viewers across all platforms.
We’re really getting into the weeds of TV renewal and cancellation season, so Lucifer and Rosewood are just another in a long line of reasons to celebrate or cry into a pillow regarding your favorite TV series. We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on every renewal and cancellation as we get closer and closer to May, so stay tuned.
