Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to the block-busting Kingsman: The Secret Service may have landed itself an Academy Award winning actress, as Deadline reports that former X-Men star Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball, Catwoman) is in talks to join the cast as the head of The CIA.
No other details on Berry’s role are provided, but should she sign on, she’ll join the returning Taron Egerton as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin, and, reportedly, Julianne Moore as the new villain of the piece. After all, there wasn’t much left of the previous ones by the end of the first movie.
There were also initial rumors that Colin Firth might be reprising the role of Harry Hart despite being killed off pretty decisively in the original – but comic creator Mark Miller claimed that the details haven’t been worked out just yet in a recent interview, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
Don’t expect Berry’s character to go the same way as Harry if she does take the part, though, as Deadline also reports that the “discussion is for a two picture deal,” meaning she’ll show up in a future sequel.
Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 is set for release on June 16, 2017.
