March in film circles can mean but one thing – and we’re not referring to the imminent release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
In little under two weeks’ time, SXSW will once again descend on Austin, Texas for a celebration of all things cinema. Preparations are being finalized, and though the current confirmed slate is exciting in and of itself, a last-minute addition has been announced today in the form of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s R-rated animation, Sausage Party.
Penning the screenplay alongside Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, Rogen and Goldberg – who last collaborated for This Is the End – lend their vocal chords for the unusual feature, which revolves around a sausage setting out on an insightful journey to discover the meaning of his existence.
While it’ll slot into the lineup as a work-in-progress screening, organizers at SXSW have claimed Sausage Party is “as raucous and hilarious as you’d expect.” and with a cast that boasts Kristen Wiig, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Bill Hader, Anders Holm, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride, we’re inclined to believe them.
SXSW 2016 begins on Friday, March 11 in Austin, Texas. From there, it’ll run through until March 19, while Rogen and Goldberg’s Sausage Party will screen for critics on Monday, March 14. Following that, expect the raunchy comedy to make tracks toward a theatrical release in time for August 12.
