At least, that’s according to Chris Evans, who spoke to Disney twenty-three (via Yahoo) about the nature of Civil War, which he still views as a solo film despite the inclusion of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – well, almost all of them.

Much of that character development will be filtered through Steve’s fraught relationship with Tony Stark, one of the many renegades that will line up against his former ally in only a few months’ time.

“Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark…It’s exciting to see a guy who’s as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him — that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life.”

Adding to that, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige spoke more about the core dynamic between Captain America and Iron Man, and how the Civil War we see on screen will be the end result of a long and testing arc.

“We’ve seen it coming. The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them.”

Captain America: Civil War is finally nearing its anticipated release on May 6, and it’s seemingly shaping up to be the best Marvel movie to date.
