In Bungie’s latest update for their now flagship property, the developers have confirmed the latest changes to the matchmaking system employed by Destiny. In a post at the official forums, one of Bungie’s Community Managers made the announcement earlier this afternoon.
Currently effective in The Crucible’s ‘Control’ games, Bungie have brought matchmaking alterations that will see connection quality take a higher precedence than usual when a game is put together. While Bungie acknowledge that this will see your skill match-ups become more randomized, they are hopeful it will lead to more enjoyable sessions overall:
Enjoying a game with your friends who are more/less skilled than you are will be easier, but your opponents will be more random, so you will stand a better chance of getting your ass kicked – or vice versa. There is still some form of protection to insulate the casual players among us from the most hardcore, but those considerations will have much less impact on the technical quality of the matchup.
Along with this in-progress change, Damage Referee is also being rolled out into other game modes within Destiny‘s Crucible, as Bungie try to stifle the impact that bad connections can have on matches.
Bungie are encouraging Destiny players to trial these alterations and offer feedback as to whether they are having positive or negative changes on Crucible matches, so be sure to have your say at the official forums if you’re still an avid player of the game.
