Amy Schumer is poised to take a turn for the dramatic to join Miles Teller in PTSD feature Thank You For Your Service, according to Deadline.

Having carved out a reputation for rib-tickling comedies, today’s news represents a marked and indeed welcome change of pace for the actress. Acting as the directorial debut of American Sniper scribe Jason Hall, Thank Your For Your Service chronicles the a group of homeward bound US soldiers, who return to American soil after a long and gruelling spell in Iraq.

Struggling to assimilate with everyday life, the story largely revolves around the trials and tribulations of Miles Teller, Beulah Koale and Joe Cole’s character, with Deadline noting that Schumer isn’t on board to play a fellow soldier. Instead, she’ll be part of the ensemble cast that is left to deal with the fallout of modern warfare, both physically and psychologically, with Thank You For Your Service already boasting Haley Bennett, Joe Cole, Beulah Koale, Scott Haze, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Brad Beyer, Omar Dorsey and Jayson Warner Smith of The Birth Of A Nation fame.

Universal Pictures is behind Hall’s first directorial effort, handling international distribution in the process. That means Jon Kilik (Foxcatcher) and Ann Ruark (Love & Mercy) are attached to produce and executive produce, respectively. The film is based on David Finkel’s novel of the same name.

After helping showcase the brutalities of war on the frontlines with American Sniper, and the emotional toll it wreaked on Bradley Cooper’s Chris Kyle, it’ll be fascinating to see how Jason Hall handles Thank You For Your Service. All signs point to a much more intimate affair, and with Schumer now part of an already enviable cast, you can color us intrigued.
