Between Bryan Singer’s imminent X-Men: Apocalypse and an appearance in Dexter Fletcher’s Sundance darling Eddie the Eagle, Hugh Jackman has found himself flitting back and forth between Fox’s prized mutants universe over the past few months. But considering that the Australian actor has portrayed Wolverine a staggering seven times across the studio’s X-Men series, James Howlett has and always will hold a special place in his heart.
At 47 years young, Hugh Jackman is perhaps more aware than anyone else that his time as the beloved loose cannon is limited, and next year’s sequel Wolverine 3 presents him with a perfect opportunity to send off the character on a high note.
[zerg]While there’s no date in place for production to get underway, Jackman himself revealed in an interview with Collider that he’s currently training to don those famous adamantium claws once more. Doing the press rounds for aforementioned sports dramedy Eddie the Eagle, here’s what the actor had to share about the nascent sequel.
We have a script. A full script. To tell you, two days ago I got that the full finished—well, it’s not finished, but we’re getting super close—as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps…yeah, it’s sooner rather than later. I don’t have a firm date yet. My thing and I’ve told you and I’ve told everyone, it’s my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it’s perfect, bang, we’ll go.
With a full script in tow and Jackman actively training to appear in the film, one would assume that Wolverine 3 will slink in front of the cameras at some point in 2016, though Fox will need to marshall a cast and crew together with haste if it is to meet the March 2017 release window.
Pulling from the Old Man Logan comic thread, Wolverine 3 has been tentatively placed for a release on March 3, 2017.
