It looks like the Guns N’ Roses reunion won’t be the only helping of ’80s nostalgia served up at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this year. In an interview with daytime talk show The Talk, rapper Ice Cube has revealed that he plans to reunite the surviving members of seminal hip-hop group N.W.A. during his performance at the live music event.
The blockbuster success of Straight Outta’ Compton has exposed the music of the definitive gangsta rap group to a new generation of fans. Even though he’s billed as a solo act on the Coachella lineup, Ice Cube made the following remarks:
I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves. I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A. together. Give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and N.W.A., Westside Connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years.
Even though Eazy E’s death in 1995 renders a full reunion impossible, Ice Cube’s comments suggest that MC Ren, DJ Yella and Dr. Dre might accompany him onstage during his performance. All but the latter artist performed together at the BET Experience last year, making it the first reunion of its caliber since the 2000 Up In Smoke tour.
