Collateral Beauty hasn’t had the easiest time getting made. At first, it was set to be Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. At that time, Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara were on board. Then, Jackman dropped out and was replaced by Will Smith. Shortly after that, both Mara and Gomez-Rejon left.
Now, David Frankel is on board and today, we got word from The Wrap that along with Smith and Helen Mirren, the studio has roped in Edward Norton, Michael Pena, Rachel McAdams and Naomie Harris. Pretty solid list of talent, eh?
We’re not sure who everyone’s playing just yet, but we do know that Will Smith is set to step into the shoes of a New York ad exec who “experiences a personal tragedy and falls into a deep depression after which his colleagues resort to an “unconventional plan” to help get him out of it.”
Written by Allan Loeb, a start date is still up in the air, but with this A-list cast now assembled, you can bet that things will get moving on Collateral Beauty sooner rather than later. And when we have any further updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
