With adults back at work and kids in school, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is beginning to slow down a little at the box office, but that hasn’t stopped it from breaking even more records. Despite a drop of 63% from last Monday, the J.J. Abrams helmed release still took $14.5 million overseas yesterday and has now earned $786.1 million internationally.
However, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still doing well domestically, and with a worldwide cume of $1.536.3 billion, it’s now sailed past the records held by Furious 7 and The Avengers to become the fourth highest grossing movie of all time. It will soon pass Jurassic World, but the biggest hurdle will come when it takes aim at the $2 billion plus hauls of Titanic and Avatar.
[zergpaid]It remains to be seen whether or not Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be able to go that far, but many box office analysts remain convinced it will, and the movie’s upcoming Chinese release should give us a much better idea of whether or not that will happen. As of right now, the UK is by far the biggest international market, with $146.9 million.
Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker, and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now in theatres.
