Just hours after we told you about Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaking a major IMAX record, it has now been revealed that the movie has become the fastest film to reach $600 million in North America. As a result, it joins a club which includes only The Avengers ($623.4 million), Jurassic World ($652.3 million), Titanic ($658.7 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million).
In fact, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to surpass Avatar‘s domestic record by the end of the weekend, adding some weight to theories that it will be the first film to earn $1 billion in the US.
[zergpaid]Internationally, the J.J. Abrams-helmed release has made $627.4 million after taking an additional $37.7 million on Tuesday, giving it a current worldwide cume of an amazing $1.23 billion. Is it going to top Avatar‘s $2.7 billion? That remains to be seen, but it’s almost certainly going to reach $2 billion, especially with its Chinese release just around the corner.
Taking all of these figures into account, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the #9 movie of all-time, taking that spot from Iron Man 3. Over the next few weeks, it’s only going to keep on rising up that chart, and we can’t wait to see how high it reaches.
