The first official still has been released from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, and it features a new look at Michael Fassbender and Ariane Labed suited up and looking ready to assassinate someone. Along with the photo, which comes to us courtesy of EW, we also get a bit of insight into the adaptation from Fassbender, who says that they’re “striving to find something special.”
After admitting that he hadn’t played the Assassin’s Creed video games before signing up to star in and produce the movie, Fassbender went on to explain why he’s since taken a crack at them:
“I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character. We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun element. We’re working hard to make this something special.”
As for how playing them has helped with the physicality, the X-Men: Apocalypse star added:
“A lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour. Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting. I’ve learned how to roly poly, tumble turn. Stuff you can do in everyday life. Like cartwheels. No — just basic fight choreography stuff. I did some horse stuff today. So stuff like that.”
Assassin’s Creed will focus on Callum Lynch (Fassbender) after he discovers that he’s a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills, he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.
