So, it’s almost here. The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is upon us. Critics have seen it, and audiences are about to experience it in just a few days. Surprisingly, almost all of the movie’s secrets have been kept under wraps. However, there is one interesting tidbit that’s now emerged thanks to the eagled eye critics over at HitFix.
During the end credits, they noticed both Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz were listed as “BB-8 Voice Consultants.” Of course, BB-8 is the film’s new droid, and is already turning into a fan-favorite character. Up until this point though, the droid’s voice actors hadn’t been revealed. Now, however, it seems as if the cat is out of the bag.
Schwartz and Hader did indeed help J.J. Abrams’ out with voicing the droid, and as Hader reveals, it wasn’t as fun as it sounds:
“It was just me and J.J. [Abrams] f**king around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8’s voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human.”
While this nugget of information won’t give fans anymore clues as to what exactly Abrams has planned for them with the film, it’s still interesting to hear and should make for some good Star Wars trivia to share with friends.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theatres on December 18th. For our own thoughts on the film, be sure to check out our glowing review.
