Despite Bungie having stated the opposite in the past, it looks like level-boosting micro-transaction items actually are headed to Destiny. In fact, they may even already be here, according to the French version of the PlayStation Store.
Eagle-eyed users spotted the appearance of some new DLC packs for Destiny which – in a similar vein to the Spark Of Light given to all Destiny: The Taken King owners – instantly boost a character’s level to 25 from 1. The three new packs (one each for the Titan, Warlock and Hunter class) are listed for €30 a piece, but pricing for North American or European audiences hasn’t been announced.
If intentionally released, Bungie are inevitably going to face sharp criticism from fans of the first-person shooter who already think that pricing for certain items and DLC packs in the past were unfair. However, don’t expect to see any paid-for DLC expansions the likes of The Dark Below or The House Of Wolves to be released again, as Bungie stated just a few days ago that, “Rather than doing these giant, monolithic DLC packs, this way [free, smaller updates] everybody who’s an owner of Taken King can enjoy these things,” further adding that their main goal is “maintaining the game and keeping players happy, feeding them new content and surprising them.”
Sorry Bungie, we don’t think more micro-transactions are the sort of ‘surprises’ players had in mind. As of writing, there’s still no word of the packs appearing on any version of the PlayStation Store other than the French one, but we’ll update this post when more comes to light.
