Following those first couple of official stills and the poster from earlier today, Warner Bros. has released the very first teaser trailer for David Yates’ The Legend Of Tarzan, which stars True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard in the title role.
This live-action adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novel will take a slightly different approach than fans are used to seeing in previous versions, as it begins with Tarzan already settled in Victorian England with Jane, having reclaimed the mantle of John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke. It’s only after he’s forced to return to the Congo as an emissary of Parliament that the jungle calls him back to his animalistic roots, and a swingin’ he goes.
Not that any of this is evident from the trailer, mind you. The footage we’re given is pretty much all bared abs and ape-battles, with some mustache-twirling courtesy of Christoph Waltz’s baddie thrown in for good measure. What’s on display here doesn’t look bad necessarily, but it doesn’t exactly have us giddy with anticipation, either.
The Legend Of Tarzan also stars Margot Robbie as Jane, Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga and Samuel L. Jackson George Washington Williams. The movie swings into theaters on July 1st, 2016.
