The end is nigh, folks: Series stalwart Milla Jovovich has published yet another batch of set photos from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, only this time confirming that production on the latest – and final! – entry into the franchise has now officially wrapped.
After setting up shop in Cape Town, South Africa, The Final Chapter will now enter post-production and a fairly lengthy VFX process ahead of its 2017 debut. Racoon City and those swathes of zombies aren’t going to render themselves, after all.
[zerg]Bringing closure to Screen Gems’ box office juggernaut, The Final Chapter picks up the strands from Retribution and sends Jovovich’s Alice on a mission back to where it all began: Racoon City. It’s here she’ll confront the malevolent Umbrella Corporation and hope to bring an end to the T-Virus once and for all, though such a feat won’t be smooth sailing, given that humanity has been whittled down to a meagre group of survivors and the undead have inherited the earth – or what’s left of it.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is primed to shuffle into theaters on January 27, 2017. Also starring in the ultimate installment are Ali Larter, Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, Orange is the New Black alum Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, Fraser James, and Rola.
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.
