Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly unveiled their Captain America: Civil War cover, giving us our first (official) image of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, AKA Black Panther. Now, the site has posted a detailed new look at the character’s ferocious costume, as well as some details on how the King of Wakanda will factor into the movie’s plot.
The recently released trailer made it pretty clear that T’Challa was throwing in with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to take on Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his allies – but his allegiance is described as being “in flux” in the report, so perhaps there’s some potential for a shift in sides?
Chadwick Boseman gave EW an idea of Panther’s mindset and motivations when we first encounter him in the film, saying the following:
There definitely is a sort of tradition that he’s torn between, in terms of how things were done in the past and how things need to happen now in this new world. I think there’s perhaps a bit of a maverick there, and then there’s also a need to live up to traditions and his father’s legacy. And not even his father’s legacy, but the entire nation of Wakanda. I think those are the things you will see.
Could Black Panther play a role in ending the conflict between the two established heroes, perhaps? Find out when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
